RIVANDA DOSS BEAL was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Rivanda attended Enrico Fermi Grammar School and Hyde Park Career Academy. Rivanda had an early interest in the law as shown through her participation in the Youth Explorers Program, where she learned about the legal profession from accomplished lawyers and judges.
RIVANDA DOSS BEAL, attended the University of Illinois at Urbana and majored in Political Science. Rivanda participated in a wide-range of activities in college from working with the college administration to organize move-in procedures to being a founding member of the University of Illinois Campus Chapter of the NAACP.
RIVANDA DOSS BEAL, worked for a year in the file room of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office before continuing her education at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. While in law school Rivanda was appointed the Regional Community Service Director for the Midwestern Region of the National Black Law Students Association. In this position Rivanda organized an Adopt-A-School program and wrote a protocol for the position of Community Service Director that would be used throughout the Midwest Region.
RIVANDA DOSS BEAL, began working as an Assistant State’s Attorney following graduation. In that position Rivanda worked in a number of different capacities within the office including the Trial Division, Special Litigation Unit, Community Prosecutions Division and Grand Jury Unit. Rivanda retired as a Supervisor from the State’s Attorney’s Office in 2021 and has since dedicated herself to helping others by offering affordable legal services in the areas of criminal defense, landlord tenant law, family law and small claims civil actions. Rivanda is also dedicated to making sure that the provisions of the Pre-trial Fairness Act are followed throughout the State of Illinois by being a Panel Attorney for the Office of the State Appellate Defender who is ready and able to prosecute appeals of viable legal claims under the Act.
RIVANDA DOSS BEAL, has committed herself to the betterment of her community by being an active participant in a number of clubs and organizations such as the Juan Diego Center, Pastors United for Change, 6th District Business Subcommittee, University of Illinois Black Alumni Association, New Progressive Missionary Church Department of Christian Education, Triedstone Baptist Church, and Harper High School, the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. Social Justice Committee member, board member for the Heal-Thy People Ministries and founding board member of Rebuild the Foundation.org.
RIVANDA DOSS BEAL is active in the legal community and maintains memberships in the Illinois State Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers of Greater Chicago (BWLA), Cook County Bar Association, National Lawyer’s Guild, Women’s Criminal Defense Bar Association, South Suburban Bar Association, Catholic Lawyer’s Guild of Chicago, and the Appellate Lawyers Association of Illinois.
RIVANDA DOSS BEAL recognizes that for many people the judicial process is a stressful and intimidating process. She had dedicated her career to showing compassion, tolerance and patience to every witness, victim or defendant that she has ever encountered. Rivanda is committed to showing compassion and fairness as a Cook County Judge.
